Project Instructions
Your Workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Paint the dowel rod with white paint and set aside to dry.
Use the Acrylic Roller to roll out a sheet of Candy Pink to 1/8" thick. Using the cutters, cut out 2 large hearts. Press the end of the dowel rod about half way up from the bottom, into the heart. Then press the other heart to the back so that the rod is sandwiched in between the hearts.
Use the Acrylic Roller to roll out a sheet of Ballerina to 1/8" thick. Using the medium cutter, cut out a heart. Then use the small cutter to cut out the center of the medium heart. Place the Ballerina heart in the center of the Candy Pink heart.
Flatten a small ball of the Ballerina and place it at the tip of the small heart on the inside. Flatten a ball of Candy Pink and place it at the base of the small heart. Refer to the below note for applying rhinestones. Place your large rhinestones in each of these flatten balls that you just attached and the small rhinestones as a border in the smaller Ballerina heart.
Note-If your rhinestones are glass or crystal, you will be able to bake them into place on the wand. Just press them into the clay and make sure the clay comes up around them just a little to hold them into place. If your rhinestones are plastic you will not be able to bake them. Push them into place where you want them to make a well for them. Then gently lift them back out. Glue them into place later after the wand has been baked. OR- you can simply glue them onto the surface of the clay after baking.
Note-If your rhinestones are glass or crystal, you will be able to bake them into place on the wand. To make the filigree:
Make a Ballerina ball that is ¼”. Flatten the ball slightly on your work surface so that it is about ¼” tall. Make a hole in the center large enough to fit the dowel though. Then roll out two thin ropes about 1.5" long and curl the ends in about half way. Slide the flattened ball up on the dowel rod and press it onto the bottom of the heart. Add the curled ropes to each side of the heart, attaching the ends to the flattened ball.
Make a Ballerina ball that is ¼”. Flatten the ball slightly on your work surface so that it is about ¼” tall. Make a hole in the center large enough to fit the dowel though. Then roll out two thin ropes about 1.5" long and curl the ends in about half way. Slide the flattened ball up on the dowel rod and press it onto the bottom of the heart. Add the curled ropes to each side of the heart, attaching the ends to the flattened ball.
To make the bow:
Pinch off another small amount of Ballerina to make the center of the bow. Make a short snake about ½” round. Use the craft knife to make the snake about ½” tall. Make a hole through the center, large enough to fit the dowel through. Slide the piece up to the top the dowel where it meets the bottom of the heart. Use the Acrylic Roller to roll out two flat pieces about 1.5" long and 1/8” thick. Bend the two flat pieces into bow shapes. Add the bow to the bottom of the filigree.
Pinch off another small amount of Ballerina to make the center of the bow. Make a short snake about ½” round. Use the craft knife to make the snake about ½” tall. Make a hole through the center, large enough to fit the dowel through. Slide the piece up to the top the dowel where it meets the bottom of the heart. Use the Acrylic Roller to roll out two flat pieces about 1.5" long and 1/8” thick. Bend the two flat pieces into bow shapes. Add the bow to the bottom of the filigree.
With your finger or a soft paintbrush, add pearl mica powder to the surface of the heart, filigree, and bow. Bake on the dowel according to the directions above in Step 1. When completely cool, tie ribbons to the dowel.
