Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake/cure clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6
mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking/curing; however please note that the
baking/curing times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take
longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE
MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Mix Igloo and a small amount of Concrete to create a marbled base, do not over-mix. Make a slab and cut 2 rectangles for the earring bases on the thickest setting.

Step 3

Mix a small amount of Spanish Olive to Sage (4:1 ratio) and roll into a thin slab #5 on the clay machine. Cut out several small circles with your cutters, these will be the leaves.

Step 4

Roll a slab of Almond Rose and Cabernet on setting #5 through the clay machine. Cut out several small circles, this will be the petals.

Step 5

Roll the green petals into a tear-drop shape and place them on your foam board. Take your ball tool and lightly roll it across the petal from the round end to the pointed end as pictured to make a leaf.

Step 6

Place the circles on the foam board and roll the ball tool from one end to the other to form a petal.
Continue with the rest of the petals.

Step 7

Grab the flat-end tool to pick the leaves by the round end and press onto the marbled base where you would like the leaves placed.

Step 8

Grab the ball end tool to place the Almond Rose petals around the leaves to form a flower.

Step 9

Place the Cabernet petals on the inner sides of the flower.

Step 10

Roll a small ball, place it in the middle of the flower, and poke several holes to add texture.

Step 11

Make a smaller flower with Almond Rose above the main flower you just made and add leaves. Poke a small hole at the top of the base for later with the needle end.
Repeat steps 7-11 to create the second earring.

Bake according to Step 1.

Step 12

Open a jump ring with the pliers and loop through the hole. Place the earring post on the jump ring and close it. Repeat with the other earring.
