Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Roll a small piece of each color into a rough cylinder that is about ¼ inch diameter and two inches long. Stack these cylinders together. (NOTE: The Poppy Seed cylinder can be slightly smaller diameter since it's only an accent color and not a main color).
Grasp each end of the stacked clay and twist your hands in opposite directions. Repeat until the twists are tight on the clay.
Gently press the ends of the twisted clay towards each other and use your fingers to shape the twisted clay into a rectangle. (NOTE: the acrylic roller helps also!)
Use the Super Slicer to cut down the length of the rectangle from the top edge. Keep the bottom edge together with your fingers as you open the two pieces. (NOTE: If you want more intricate patterning than what you see, just close the cut and repeat steps 2-4.)
Use the acrylic roller to gently roll the pieces together and flatten them slightly so that the clay is about the same thickness as two #1 layer of clay (about 3/8 inch).
Carefully place the ring finding face down on the area you selected as the most interesting for the ring. Use the Super Slicer to trim the clay to the edges of the ring. (NOTE: the center of the pattern should run along the center of the ring)
Remove the clay and fit it into the ring. Firmly press the ring against a sheet of clean white paper to flatten it into the ring. Use the Super Slicer to trim away any excess clay from the top of the ring bezel.
Roll all the excess clay into a cylinder and repeat steps 2-4 to create another, more intricate, Natasha mirror pattern.
Again, use the acrylic roller to gently roll the two pieces together and flatten it slightly. Use the Super Slicer to trim the clay to the desired portion of the pattern. Roll a small amount of the Sea Glass through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine on the #3 setting and put the trimmed Natasha clay on this layer. Trim the edge to leave a small selvage around the edge. Repeat with the Poppy Seed clay. Bake the pendant and ring in a preheated oven according to the directions above.
Once the baked clay has cooled, pop out the clay in the ring and use the clear fast drying glue and place it back into the ring bezel. Use the needle tool to put two small holes on the top of the pendant in the Poppy Seed layer. The holes should be about ¼ inch from the outside edge of the pendant. Sculpey Souffle is super easy to put holes in after baking! Put a drop of fast drying glue on the tip of an eye pin (trimmed to about ¼ inch) and push the eye pin into the hole at the top of the pendant. Repeat on the other side of the pendant. Attach the chain and you have a beautiful necklace to wear!
