Project Instructions
GETTING STARTEDPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Make pearls using the concave end of the Etch n Pearl tools. Using the small Etch 'N Pearl tool, make 14 small Poppyseed pearls. TIP - Make the pearls on a tile. Lay clay sheet on the tile. Press concave end through clay sheet onto baking surface. Lift up clay sheet and dot will stick to baking surface. Repeat for as many dots as you need.
Using the Medium Etch n Pearl tool make 4 pearls out of Sea Glass. Then using the small Etch n Pearl tool make 4 pearls using Sea Glass Clay. Bake all of the pearls from steps 1 and 2 at 275°F for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely and remove from baking surface. With sharp blade, remove extra clay from dot edges.
Using the Extruder, make thin Poppyseed strings.
Using the Clay Conditioning Machine on the #3 setting make Poppyseed and Sea Glass sheets and trim both to 2" x 2".
Press the 1-1/2" cutter lightly on Sea Glass sheet to make a pattern guide. On top half, cut out small circles with straw or tiny cutter. Use needle tool point to texture clay between cutouts. Lay textured Sea Glass sheet on Poppyseed sheet, pressing lightly and taking care not to trap air bubbles between the sheets.
Using the clay conditoning machine on the #1 setting make a Sea Glass sheet and trim to 2" x 2". Lightly spray the texture sheet with water. Using the Cherry Blossom design press firmly into clay. Trim again to 2" x 2" and carefully turn sheet over. Press the layered sheet from Step 5 onto back of textured sheet, taking care not to trap air between the layers.
Position Poppyseed strings as shown. Use 1-1/2" cutter to cut out shape. Press on baked dots. Make hanging hole with needle tool. Bake according to the directions above.
When completely cooled, add jump ring and necklace cord.
