Project Instructions
Getting Started:Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Roll the conditioned Souffle Latte clay out on the #1 setting on the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine to create a sheet of clay that is at least 6 inches long. Position the Sculpey Bracelet Cuff at the left end of the sheet of clay and trim to the edge of the cuff.
Roll the cuff to the right, wrapping the clay around the cuff. Trim the right side of the clay to the cuff.
Slide the Sculpey Super Slicer along the top edge of the cuff to remove the excess clay. Repeat on the other side. The outer surface of the cuff should now be covered with a neat layer of clay and there should be no clay on the inside of the cuff.
Cut a strip of clay about ½ inch wide and at least the length of the cuff (this can often be cut out of the selvage clay from Step 3). Place this strip down the center of the wrapped cuff.
Use your thumbs to gently pull the edges of this layer to the bottom layer, creating a rounded strip of clay. This does NOT need to be perfect!
Put the remaining portion of Latte clay through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine, set on #2 to create a strip of clay that is at least as long as the cuff. Texture this clay with either the texture stamp or rough sand paper.
Lay this sheet of textured clay over the clay on the cuff, wrapping the edges down to the inside of the cuff.
Use the craft knife to slide around the INSIDE edge of the cuff to trim the clay so that it wraps around the two layers of clay on top, but doesn’t overlap onto the inside of the cuff.
Set the wrapped bracelet cuff aside.
Roll the conditioned Souffle Cowboy clay through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine set on #2. Repeat with the Key Lime and Sea Glass. Stack the 3 sheets of clay on top of each other as shown and cut out a rectangle of clay that is about 2x4 inches.
Roll this stacked rectangle (small end down) through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine again set on #2. Accordion fold the long sheet of clay into thirds as shown.
Roll the folded rectangle of clay through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine one more time (still set on #2). Accordion fold the clay once again and place this folded stack of clay on the smooth acrylic tile. Use the Ball tools to firmly impress bumps into the surface of the clay. You can use the pointed end of the large ball tool as well.
Grasp the flexible Sculpey Super Slicer blade firmly at each end and bow the blade just slightly. Slide this bowed blade through the stack of clay, making as thin a slice as you comfortably can. Set the slice on a clean sheet of paper and repeat.
Once you have several slices from the stack, begin collaging them onto the Latte bracelet, leaving space for the beautiful textures to show through. Trim the slices so that no clay is on the inside of the cuff blank.
Bake according to the directions above. Once the bracelet has baked and cooled to just warm, grasp one end of the clay and pull it out slightly to pop the metal cuff away from the clay. Remove the cuff entirely.
Use a small paint brush to paint dark brown paint onto the visible Latte portions of the bracelet. Immediately wipe with a damp paper towel to remove excess clay from the upper portions of the texture. Allow the bracelet to dry and enjoy!
