Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Make the following parts to assemble a bumble bee:
Roll 3 balls of Yellow clay: one 1/2”, one 5/8”, and one 3/4”. Set aside
Roll 2 balls of Black clay: one a bit less than 5/8”, and one 3/4”. Roll a snake of Black clay approximately 1/8” thick by 4” long. Cut six little leg pieces from this approximately 1/2” to 3/4” long. Make 2 little antennae approximately 1/2”. Roll 2 tiny balls for the pupils of the eyes. Set aside.
Roll 2 balls of White clay 1/2” in diameter. Roll 2 tiny balls of clay 1/8” in diameter for the eyes.

Take the smallest Yellow ball and roll one end into a point for the stinger or tail of the bee. Take the smallest Black clay ball and flatten into a disc or flattened cylinder shape and press to the tail. Next, take the medium 5/8” Yellow clay ball and flatten to make a disc shape and attach it to the Black piece. Take the second Black ball of clay and flatten to a disc once again and attach it to the Yellow. The bee’s body is complete. Gently roll to make the pieces more uniform together.
Time to add the last Yellow ball for the bee’s head. Take your clay knife and cut off a small section of the ball and so there is a flat side and then attach it to the body.
Flatten your two tiny White balls of clay and press on to the face for the eyes. Press the tiny little Black balls on for the pupils.
Use your clay knife to make a happy mouth.
Attach the two little Black antennae on top of the head. Make sure they are secure.

Take the six little leg pieces that you made and make one end pointed on each. Attach the six legs to the bee on the bottom.
Lastly take the two ½” White balls of clay and shape them into teardrop shapes and flatten for the wings. Use your Sculpey 5 in 1 tool or a toothpick and make three vertical lines down each wing. Attach the wings to the top of the body.
Bake according to package directions and allow to cool before the two of you buzz off to play!
