Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130°C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. 

Begin by preheating oven to 275°F (130°C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Roll about 1/3 of a package of Purple Pearl through the Clay Conditioning Machine on the thickest setting. Then change the setting to #5 and roll the clay sheet through again to create a very thin sheet. Start wrapping the clay around the ornament near the top of the ornament (remove the metal hanger cap).  Slightly stretch the clay as you wrap it on the ornament. Create tight darts in the clay a shown.

Trim the excess clay from the “darts” with your Super Slicer blade

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the entire ornament is roughly covered. Trim the excess clay carefully from any overlaps of clay so that it is roughly level with the rest of the clay covering the ornament.

Use an acrylic roller or smooth round tool to smooth these areas. 

Roll the entire ornament in your hands to help smooth the clay. Set the clay into your baking nest. 

NOTE: I use polyester fiber fill layered over a 3 inch round cutter.  If you don't have a cutter, cut a piece of cardboard 1x5 and tape it together to create a circle. Cover with polyester fiberfill and “nest” the ornament in it to bake.  Bake according to the clay package directions for about 10 minutes.  Allow to cool.

While the ornament is baking, extrude several lengths of silver clay, using the medium round circle die.  You probably only need about 2 feet extruded.

Once the ornament is baked and cooled, you can begin to add your silver coils. Start at the top. Once you're happy with the coil, put a sheet of white paper or index card on top and lightly press it into place. 

Continue to build your coils out from the original one to cover roughly a quarter of the ornament and then start again at the top.

Once the coils are complete, just lightly trace the path of each coil with your finger covered in silver glitter.

Rebake the ornament in it's “nest” for another 10 minutes. Replace the metal top of the ornament and ENJOY!
