premo Gingerbread Ornament

NOTES:
This ornament is a flat back ornament.
So when making it, I like to put it together on the tile that I’m going to bake it on.
Remember, you can jazz it up all you want! This is YOUR ornament!

Your Work Space:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipe before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking premo:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). For best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

You will need ½ package of Premo Gray Granite and ¼ package of Premo Raw sienna.Condition each color until soft. Then you will mix the 2 colors. Blend till you get a nice even color.

With the clay you just mixed together, you will need the following sizes balls of clay.
HEAD: 1 ¼ inch ball.
BODY: ¾ inch ball.
ARMS (2): ½ inch ball.

Take your ¾ inch ball for the body and shape into a triangle.
The top where the neck will be you can make a bit pointed.
This way you can lay the head on it.

Take your needle tool and indent in the middle to make the separation for the legs.
Smooth out the middle a bit and work the legs to how long you want them.
I like the short little leg look.

Take the 2 balls that are ½ inch and use them for the arms.
Make them into a tear shape and put them on each side of the body.
Flatten them out a bit to get the desired look.
I also like to blend the seams on the arms to the body.

Take the 1 ¼ inch ball you made for the head.
You will want to make it an oval shape.
Work on the shape till you are happy with it and then lay it over the little point that you made for the neck area so it holds together better.

Now that you have the body all together.
Take your ball stylus and make an indent where you want the eyes and the ‘buttons’on the body of the gingerbread.
I also put the eye pin in at this time.

Take the 2 black beads for the eyes and put them in the holes you made.
Take a little bit of red and green clay and fill in the holes you made for the buttons.

Take some red clay and using your heart shaped cutter, cut out 2 hearts.
This will be for the bow.
Once you have the hearts placed on the gingerbreads neck, take a little bit of clay for the middle of the bow.
Also take a little bit of red or green clay for the nose.

Now that your gingerbread is full made, now comes the fun part.
Take your Pearl liquid Sculpey and make the ‘icing’ on the head, arms, and legs

Bake your gingerbread as directed.
Once its cool you can remove from the tile.
Take a piece of ribbon and got through the eye pin and tie.
Your ornament is NOW ready to hang on your tree!
