Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
On the #2 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine roll out 1/4 package of Copper into a sheet and a 1/4 package of Peacock Pearl into a sheet. Use the Super Slicer to cut a right triangle shape from the Copper and Peacock Pearl sheet. Fit the triangles together to form sheet. Create a partial skinner blend by folding the sheet of clay in half (like color to like color) and run it through the Clay Conditioning Machine on the thickest setting. Continue to fold the sheet after each pass through the Clay Conditioning Machine about 4-5 times you will still have streaks. Repeat with the other color combinations: Copper/Bright Green Pearl and Bright Green Pearl/Copper.
Tightly roll each blend.
Squeeze ends and compress log to about 1 inch wide.
With the Clay Conditioning Machine on the #3 setting create a sheet of Bronze clay. Wrap each log with this thin sheet of Bronze so that both colors of the blend can be seen.
After wrapping the log continue to reduce until log is a rectangle less than 1/2 inch in width and slightly thicker than the widest setting on your clay conditioning machine.
Roll each blend through the clay conditioning machine at the widest setting. Cut each blend into strips 4 inch long.
Stack four pieces and press one side to form a triangle. Continue to place strips along compressed side of stack, alternating colors. Continue stacking pieces to form one side of the feather. Reserve one piece for the center. Cut stack in half.
Form a thin wedge from the Copper clay extending about half way up one of the flattened triangle section and the length of the cane. Cut reserved piece to the length of the stack. Place above the wedge to form tip of feather.
Align second half of the stack with the first and compress the tip together. Continue compressing to close any holes. Reduce feather to about one inch in length.
Mix a small amount of Copper in with half a package of Pearl. Form a cylinder about 1 inch in diameter and a little longer than your feathers. Use largest Etch 'N Pearl to pierce a hole in the middle of cylinder. Cut 5 thin slices from the feather cane. Cut 3 slightly thicker slices for the dangling feathers. Make some small cuts into the sides of the slices use blade to open gap a little further. Pinch bottom on each feather to form a point. Make a small hole through the bottom end of the thick slices for the jump rings. Slightly curve each feather and apply to cylinder pointing the same direction. Gently roll on work surface to adhere feathers and slightly enlarge hole.
Bake the cylinder bead and the 3 thick feathers as directed above. After the bead cools feed a loop of leather cord through hole in bead having the tips of the feathers pointing toward the loop place large jump ring on leather cord. Insert one jump ring into the two thick feathers. Attach two jump rings to the third feather. Attach all 3 feathers to jump ring on cord. Placing the feather with two jump rings in the middle Tie ends of leather cord to complete necklace.
