Neon Bib Necklace

Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Load the conditioned Teal Pearl into your selected extruder and use the square die to extrude about 14 inches of clay. (I won't lie, I started with the Teal Pearl because it's one of my most favorite Sculpey colors in all the lines!). Cut five pieces of this extruded clay and thread onto one of the bead rack needles. Trim the top edges even and about 1/4 inch from needle. Flip all 5 pieces to the top of the needle. Flip the first piece down and trim your longest piece (mine is about 2-3/4 inches). Flip the next piece down and trim slightly shorter (think 1/4 inch again), continue for the rest of the pieces.

Extrude the Acid Yellow and cut 5 pieces, threading onto a new bead rack needle. Trim the top edge to match the Teal Pearl and trim each of the lengths to match the Teal Pearl. Set the needle carefully aside.

Repeat these steps above with the Hot Pink and Granny Smith colors, cutting these segments to match each other, but shorter than the Teal Pearl and Acid Yellow segments. You will need to set of each color. Yes, I created the first set and then used it as a template to cut the second set as shown! NOTE: You may note that my two sections of these colors are not the same! I purposely made them this way to add a bit of a flow to the necklace - you may wish to make both sides symmetrical.

Roll out a small piece of the Acid Yellow clay on the #1 (widest) setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine and punch out several small "pearls" with the small Etch n' Pearl tool. Add these pearls down the length of the longest Teal Pearl strip. Add Granny Smith pearls to the longest Hot Pink strip and Hot Pink pearls to the longest Granny Smith strip as well.

Remove the strips from the pins (but keep in order!) and bake as directed above. Once the pieces have baked and cooled, assemble the necklace as shown.
