Project Instructions
Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Mix the packages of Blue and Green clay completely until the color is a uniform Teal. Divide the clay into thirds.
Roll one third of the clay into a smooth sheet about 1/8” thick.
Mix one third of the Teal clay with ½ package of White.
Divide the remaining third Teal clay piece into three new pieces.
Mix two pieces of Teal with ½ package of white.
Mix the final third Teal Piece with a full package of white.
If the range of colors is not satisfactory, further adjustments to lighten or darken the colors can be made. Roll all new Teal colors into sheets that are 1/8” thickness. There should be 4 sheets.
Texture half of each sheet with one or two patterns and leave the other half smooth. I used all different patterns from the Edgy texture sheet pack.
Bake the sheets according to the directions above in Step 1.
Using a craft knife and ruler against a cutting mat, cut each sheet into pieces of various thicknesses and lengths, making sure the ends are straight.
Arrange the pieces on the wooden peace sign placing different colors and patterns adjacent to each other. Glue the pieces in place leaving a varied edge around the outside of the circle. After the glue is dry, trim the interior edges of the symbol even with the wooden edge using a craft knife.
Make a snake about 1/8” thick x 11” long out of Purple clay. Form it into the letters for the word “peace.” Bake the letters according to the directions above in Step 1.
Mix a bit of Purple, Yellow and White into a marbled pattern. Roll out a sheet of this clay and cut out two butterflies using cookie cutters. Form heads and bodies with Black clay and press it down the center of the butterflies. Bake according to the directions above in Step 1.
Glue the word peace and the butterflies in place. Allow glue to dry completely.
