Project Instructions
Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Condition one package of white clay and roll into a smooth sheet at a #2 setting on the Clay Conditioning Machine. Spritz the large floral pattern from the Landscape Texture Sheet and lay on top of the flat sheet. Roll the Acrylic Roller across the top of the texture sheet pressing firmly to get a nice deep pattern. Press the patterned sheet over about 1/3 of the lid, trimming the clay away from the hinge and flush with the lower edge of the lid. Repeat for the other side of the lid.
Continue making White clay sheets and patterning them. Cover both sides and the bottom of the box.
Bake the box according the manufacturer’s instructions above. Baking in several stages will allow the entire box to be covered without marring portions of pattern while handling the box to cover subsequent sections.
Mix the color for the center panel of the box. Use one package Blue with ½ package White and about ½ package of Purple. Mix together until you get a consistent color.
Make a sheet of Blue clay using the Clay Conditioning Machine on a #2 setting. Spritz the large snakeskin pattern from the Edgy Texture Sheet pack and lay on top of the flat sheet. Roll the Acrylic Roller across the top of the texture sheet pressing firmly to get a nice deep pattern.
Apply the snakeskin Blue clay piece to the center of the box butting the edges with the White patterns. Trim around the area where the handle was attached so that the joint for the wires remain accessible. Repeat for both sides and the bottom of the box.
Bake again according to the directions above.
Make several simple canes by wrapping a snake of color (the color you want for the center) with additional sheets of clay to make a bull’s eye for flower petals. Here we used the below combinations: -Red, Yellow and Blue -White, Purple, Bright Pink, Black -Red, Yellow, Purple -Purple, Orange, Black, WhiteYou will want to reduce your cane into different sizes to get the flower look you want. You will be making six flowers out of the cane slices.
Make an Orange flower by making five ¼” balls of Orange clay and shaping them into petals (tear drops). Press them together to form a flower.
Make a White flower by making five ¼” balls of White clay and shaping them into petals (tear drops). Press them together to form a flower.
Make leaves out of the canes you made in Step 7 using the Black, White, Purple and Bright Pink Clay. Pinch the end of the cane into a tear drop shape and slice off pieces. Once all of the flowers are assembled, place onto the front and top of the lid bake again according to the directions above.
With about ¼ package of each color (Black, White, Yellow, Blue and Bright Pink) build a stacked cane with various stripes. Reduce and repeat this cane to duplicate the pattern. Cut slices of this cane and press them over the seams on the box.
To cover the handle you need to make various beads with the simple canes. We used 11 beads to cover the handle in our project .
-Make 2 Purple and 2 Pink disc beads and press the sides lightly into a texture of your choice.
-Make three ¾” balls in White, Black and Yellow. Reduce the canes from the previous steps and cover the balls with the cane slices.
-Make one ½” Bright Pink Ball and cover with thin snakes of Yellow clay.
-Make one ½” Red ball and cover with thin snakes of Black Clay
-Make one Black Lentil bead and cover with Blue Dots with Bright Pink Centers
-Make one oval shaped Black bead and cover with cane slices from previous steps
-Pierce all of the beads with needle tool and bake according to the directions above.
Bake the decorated box one last time according to the directions above.
Thread the beads on the wire. Thread one end through the joint on the box and finish the wire in the same manner as a wrapped loop. Repeat on the other side.
