Sculpey® Gloss Glaze Works With All Oven-Bake Clays

You can use Sculpey® Gloss Glaze on any brand of polymer clay. This polymer clay glaze provides a functional, attractive finishing touch for all your creations.

For the best results:

  • Refrain from applying Sculpey® Gloss Glaze too thickly on your projects as it can peel.
  • Add a few drops of water to achieve the desired consistency if your Sculpey® glaze becomes too thick.
  • Thin the clay with water and apply two to three thin coats as opposed to one thick one.
  • Avoid spray glazes as they can turn sticky due to the interaction between the clay and propellant.
  • Twist the cap for precise flow control, open halfway for detail work or open completely to flood.
  • Test a small section of your project first before glazing a painted piece.
  • Apply Sculpey® Gloss Glaze and allow it to dry completely.
  • Observe your project for any interactions with the glaze.

When to Use Sculpey® Gloss Glaze

A quality glaze is the final step of any clay sculpting project, so add Sculpey® Gloss Glaze to the end of your project directions. Professionals prize Sculpey® Gloss Glaze because it's designed to enhance the look of complete polymer clay projects. This Sculpey® glaze will make your creations more durable, so set the clay and smoothly cover minor imperfections. You can even use the polymer clay glaze with acrylic water-based finishes for more design flexibility.

Sculpey® Gloss Glaze: How to Avoid Air Bubbles and Peeling

Avoiding air bubbles and peeling is easy when you choose Sculpey® Gloss Glaze to enhance your clay creations.

Stir the clay glaze gently and refrain from shaking the bottle to prevent air bubbles. Air can entrap itself in the liquid if Sculpey® Gloss Glaze is too thick. Then add a few drops of water and stir. Next, retwist the cap onto the glaze and let it sit for about an hour. If the glaze is still too thick, you can repeat the process with additional drops of water.

When you want to avoid peeling, apply two to three thin coats. Sometimes, a single thick coat will not form an evenly distributed film onto the clay surface. Moisture can accumulate beneath the surface and cause your project to peel if you leave any voids, so it's always best to apply more than one coat of clay glaze.
