Sculpey III Floral Silkscreened Salt and Pepper Shakers
The combination of these Sculpey III colors with the Sculpey floral silkscreen create a bright and cheerful accent for your table. What a great guest gift for a friend or for yourself!
TIME TO COMPLETION: 60 minutes incudes baking time
- Medium blue acrylic craft paint
- Glass salt and pepper shakers that are washed and dried completely.
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Sculpey III® Floral Silkscreened Salt and Pepper Shakers create a cheerful, bright accent on your table. They also make an excellent gift for friends and family!
Silkscreensare all the rage in the world of polymer clay at the moment — and for good reason. They allow you to create designs that can be used on raw clay in an infinite number of ways. With mica powders, chalk or paint, you can use silkscreens to shape unbaked polymer clay and make all kinds of rolled and shaped forms.
Silkscreen stencils are an invaluable tool for any player. Here are some points to consider so you can choose the screen that will work best for your project.
Using Silkscreens on Polymer Clay
Whether you want to make floral salt and pepper shakers, picture frames, ornaments, jewelry or another embellished clay creation with silkscreens, make sure to consider the following.
Positive and Negative Silkscreen Designs
Just like texture sheets have "outty" and "inny" designs, it's helpful to consider positive and negative adornments when choosing your silkscreen stencil. While some silkscreens print the design right on your raw clay, others print the space around the pattern.
Silkscreen Size
Before buying a silkscreen design, you'll want to think about the size of your finished product. Smaller-scale silkscreen designs are better suited to smaller projects like earrings or pendants. Alternatively, larger motifs are a better choice if you're looking for a more sizable project.
Silkscreen Designs for Polymer Clay
Sculpey® offers two silkscreen packages that come with two reusable silkscreens and one squeegee. Designs include:
- Sculpey Tools™ Nature Silk Screens: These packages come with 1.75-inch round patterns including Vine, Desert, Tree Bark, Agate, Butterfly and Deco Palms, plus a Boho Feathers large pattern.
- Sculpey Tools™ Floral Silk Screens: These consist of 1.75-inch round patterns including Pressed Petals and Latticework, Water Lily, Leaves, Blossoms and a Garden pattern.
You can also opt for a Sculpey® Silkscreen Kit equipped with four reusable silkscreens, the Sculpey® Silkscreen Set - Garden Party or the Sculpey® Silkscreen Set - Free Spirit.
Overall Designs vs. Silkscreen Motifs
It's essential to think about how you'd like to use silkscreen designs in your work. Are you looking for a background pattern or a focal design?
For example, if you want to make the Sculpey III® Floral Silkscreened Salt and Pepper Shakers or a pair of earrings, you may want to use a design displaying specific motifs. Larger ornamentations work better for background applications as a visual texture.
