Project Instructions

Step 2

From 1/4 bar French Pink make a short thick cylinder about 1.5” long.

Step 3

Sheet 1/4 bar Cabernet through the pasta machine on the fourth thickest setting. Make the sheet at least as wide as the French Pink cylinder and long enough to wrap the cylinder.

Step 4

Trim the edges of the sheet with a Clay Blade to match the length of the cylinder. Start on one end and carefully roll the French Pink up in the Cabernet.

Step 5

Wrap the Cabernet all the way around and gently touch the sheet end to the sheet beginning.

Step 6

Carefully slice a blunt seam so that the edges butt up to each other alongside the cylinder. Never overlap this seam, always butt the seam as shown. Smooth the seam with fingertips.

Step 7

Carefully roll the log on the work surface to smooth out air bubbles and make sure the wrap is secured to the cylinder. The cylinder should become slightly longer as well during rolling. The desired diameter of the cylinder is about 1/2” wide. This cane will be the petals of the flowers so we want the diameter to be the size of any one petal.

Step 8

Carefully pinch a point all along one side of the petal cane with thumb and finger.

Step 9

Lay the cane down and carefully remove thin slices. The slices should be slightly thinner than 1/8” thick each.

Each section of the flower will require 6 petals. There are 3 sections of petals per earring, or 18 petals per earring total.

Place each individual petal in the palm of your hand and roll it with the 12mm Ball Tool to help it curl.

Step 10

Pinch a point in each curled petal.

Step 11

Here’s a look at six petals that will become one flower.

Step 12

Arrange three curled petals together in your palm to start the flower.

Step 13

Position three petals behind the first three.

Step 14

Help all the petals stick together by pushing the centers together with the 6 mm Ball Tool.

Step 15

Poke a hole through the center of the petals with the Mini Needle Tool. Thread the ear wire through the hole.

Step 16

Make another grouping of 6 petals and string them onto the ear wire.

Step 17

Make a third set of petals and string them onto the ear wire.

Position the petals so the grouping looks full.

Step 18

Add little Igloo ball centers to the outer flowers on the ear wire. Make sure the little balls make good contact with the petals.

966-19

Carefully position the raw clay and wire on the baking batting. This will cradle the petals in the oven.

Repeat all steps to make more cane if needed and to make another matching flower earring.

Step 20

Bake the earrings on the batting following the baking instructions for Sculpey Soufflé™. Allow to cool completely before handling.
