Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

First lets mix a custom color - Light Spanish Olive. Take very small equal parts
(about 1/16 bar of each) Spanish Olive and White and mix them completely
together to create Light Spanish Olive. Set aside for now.

Step 3

Sheet Light Pink to 1/8” thick with the Acrylic Roller.

Make sure you can get two of the cutter shapes from this sheet.

Step 4

Cut out two of the shapes and set the scraps aside.

Flip one of the shapes over, especially if your shapes are asymmetrical like mine, so that the shapes are mirror imaged.

Smooth the edges of the cut out pieces with your fingertips.

Step 5

Score a shallow line with the needle tool about 1/8” away from the outer edges of each shape. This will be the guideline for the floral arrangement and will be covered.

Step 6

Shape six tiny leaves from Spanish Olive. Arrange them along the guideline as shown.

Step 7

Shape eight light Spanish Olive leaves and arrange them along the guideline as shown.

Step 8

Press a vein detail into each leaf with the Needle Tool.

Step 9

Flatten a 1-1/2” piece of White into a little flat rope about 1/4” wide.

Wrap this little piece around the tip of the Blunt Point Tool forming a coiled rose
shape.

Step 10

Pinch the end of the rose to hold the coils together.

Step 11

Push the roses into place using the tip of the tool through the center of the rose as shown.

Repeat steps to place a rose on each piece.

Step 12

Roll tiny White balls for flowers. You will need five balls for each flower, so make
a total of 30 balls.

Arrange them in groups of five as shown - three sets on each piece.

Step 13

Use the Ball Tool to set the five petal flowers in place. Push the middles of each
flower flat with the Ball Tool.

Step 14

Next, make tiny balls of Burnt Umber and place one in the center of each five petal
flower.

Step 15

Make tiny balls of Light Pink and arrange them on the background. Set them into
place with the flat end of the Needle Tool.

Step 16

Arrange the earrings for their later assembly. Poke holes in the clay pieces with the Blunt Point Tool where it will be necessary to later insert the jump rings.

Bake the pieces following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 17

Use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump rings connecting them to the clay pieces and the pearl toppers.
