Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started with Sculpey Bake Shop® :

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven
Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured
clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces.
Be sure to
cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands
after use.

Baking:

Begin by
preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake
clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or
the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6
mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For
best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT
EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

To make the coat of the kitten, mix 1/8 bar Gray with 1/16 bar White.

Step 3

Soften both the Gray and the White. Form the Gray into a ball and the White into a thin sheet. Wrap the White around the side of the Gray.

Step 4

Work the White from the outside into the Gray.

Step 5

Keep working the White in but do not mix it completely.

Step 6

Shape the partially mixed clay into a ball.

Step 7

Roll the ball into a thick log.

Cut the log in half off center. Slice a thin piece off of each end.

The small piece on the right end will be used for the legs.

The smaller section in the middle will be the head.

The larger section in the middle will be the body.

The small section on the left end is the amount needed for the tail.

Step 8

Shape the body section into an oval.

Take the small section that we have for the legs, divide it in half, and shape both pieces into tapered teardrops.

Press the tapered ends to the bottom front of the body with the thick parts sticking out as paws. The paws will hold the face up.

Step 9

Take the piece that we set aside for the tail and taper it on both ends. Press one end to the back of the body and wrap it around the side. Curl the tip of the tail up so it looks cute.

Step 10

Roll the piece we set aside for the head into a ball. Press it to the front of the body and laying on top of the front paws.

Smear a little bit of White clay across the bottom of the face and blend it to the face with your fingertips.

Add a pink nose. Use tools to make sleepy eyes and whisker marks.

Step 11

Add solid gray ears that are triangular in shape to the head.

Use the pointed tool to push in ear canals.

Bake the kitten following the baking instructions for Sculpey Bake Shop®.

Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 12

While the kitten is baking, we can work on the little nest for the tea cup.

Cut a piece of aluminum foil about 8” x 8”. Crumple the foil up to fit into the cup.

Step 13

Push a little divot in the foil that will support the kitten.

Step 14

Once the kitten is cool, test out how he will nestle into the foil. Make adjustments as needed in the shape of the foil.

Step 15

Test the foil and the kitten once again in the cup.

Step 16

Place the foil, top side down on top of a piece of felt that is about 4” x 6”.

Step 17

Wrap the foil in the felt and push the loose ends of the felt down into the teacup.

Place the kitten on top of the foil. Use fingertips to gently pull and loosen the felt so that it looks cozy around the kitten,
