Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started with Getting Started with Sculpey® Bake Shop

Bake at 275 °F (130 °C) 15 minutes per 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness.

To avoid cracking or burning your craft, use an oven thermometer to gauge heat and avoid going over the necessary baking time.

An adult should take care of the baking in a home oven or toaster oven. Never use a microwave to bake the clay.

DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING
TIME.

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Step 2

Roll a medium sized ball of white clay and form into a gumdrop shape slightly flattening the bottom on your worksurface. Cut off the top to leave a surface for the head in later steps as shown in the photo.

Step 3

Take two balls of white clay and form into long raindrops for the front legs. Roll a small of white clay into a chubby log and cut it into two pieces at an angle for the back legs. Your pieces should resemble the photo.

Step 4

Place the pieces onto the base from Step 2 and secure onto the body, smoothing it out with the needle tool.

Step 5

Using slightly less clay than Step 2, form a ball of white clay into a chubby rounded
teardrop and slightly curve the small end upwards to mimic a simple horse head.
Place onto the flattened surface of the base and secure as needed with the
needle tool.

Step 6

Take small amounts of white clay and make two triangles for ears and cut off the bottom end and attach to each side of the head.

Step 7

To make pastel colors mix each color in a 1:1 ratio using the ½ the base color with ½ white. Red + White = Pink, Blue + White = Light Blue, Yellow + White = Light Yellow, Green + White = Light Green, Red + Blue = Light Purple, Yellow + Red + White = Light Orange

Step 8

Take bits of each color and make coils to mimic a curly tail. Place coils on the
back of the base making the bottom coils longer to support the tail and add
more coils going up the base leading to the head.

Step 9

Mix small amount of brown and white together to make a light brown color. Make two small snakes and twirl together to form a unicorn horn and coat with mica powder. Place on the head between the ears.

Bake as directed in Step 1 above and allow to cool.

Step 10

Paint on some eyes and small details on the sides of the unicorn to your liking.
