Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

 Baking:

Begin by
preheating oven to 285 °F (130 °C). After you are done
creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal,
aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 285°F
(130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package
directions.  Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for
baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as
the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up.  For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO
NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED
BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Start with mixing equal parts of red and white to make a pink clay. Make sure to mix well and ensure that the color is even throughout. Make a ball of the pink clay about an inch wide and flatten it with your palm. Additionally, make a snake of clay about 2 inches long.

Step 3

Use the snake of clay to make an S shape and press one end
into the circle to bond them together. Use your finger to smooth the edges
together and blend the clay. At the top of the S shape, press the clay in with
your finger to flatten it and give a flamingos head shape to it.

Step 4

Make a small triangle and flatten it. Attach it to the bottom left side of the circle clay and blend them together as in step 3.

Step 5

Take a very small amount of orange clay and warm it up with your hands. Roll it into a small cone shape and attach it at the top of the S shape. Curve the cone shape into the S to make it look like a flamingo beak.

Step 6

Take an even smaller amount of black clay and roll it into a cone shape. Attach it over the orange beak and continue to make the entire beak curve.

Step 7

Poke a hole in the orange part of the beak. Additionally, make a very small ball out of white clay and press it into the flamingo head where an eye would go. Make an even smaller black ball out of clay and press it into the middle of the white circle to complete the eye.

Step 8

Make 2 very long, skinny black snakes. Attach them both underneath the flamingo and lightly press them into the clay mat. Use your fingers to blend the black flamingo legs into the flamingo body. Bend the diagonal leg in to cross with the vertical one. Press them lightly into the mat to bond the 2 legs together. Cut the legs with your tool to give them a nice clean finish.

Step 9

Repeat steps 3-8 to create the other earring to make a pair. Take 2 screw eye pins and screw them into the top of the flamingo neck. You are now ready to bake your earrings!

Step 10

Please follow the baking instructions written. Once baked and cooled, attach 2 hook earring findings to complete the earrings. All done!
