Souffle Fall Wreath

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Roll out the Souffle Jade, Igloo and Cowboy on the #2, or next to widest, setting. Trim into 2x3 inch rectangles and stack the layers as shown.

Roll the stacked layers through the Clay Conditioning Machine on #2 again and fold the long piece of clay into thirds.

Repeat Step 3 again. This makes the layers thinner! Use the acrylic roller to gently press any remaining air out.

Place the stack of clay on a smooth tile and use the 3 sizes of the Style n’ Detail tools to press into the layers of clay as shown. NOTE: I like to start with the biggest tool, then medium and finally small.

Slightly bend your blade and slice just the very top off the stack. It helps me to focus on pulling the front of the blade UP while I slice! Make as many slices as you can. Souffle is great for this because it’s less sticky than most clays and it cuts so easy!

Use the third to largest circle cutter to cut a circle of clay from a #2 layer of Cinnamon clay. Roll into a ball and then slightly point one end. Gently wrap a piece of the sliced Mokume Gane around the ball and roll gently in your hand. Set aside.

Lightly spray the diamond/snakeskin texture sheet with water (I used the small diamond section). Roll a sheet of Cowboy clay through the Clay Conditioning Machine on #2. Place the sheet of clay against the section that you just moistened and roll through the machine on the #1 (larger setting).

Use one of the smaller circle cutters to cut out a circle of the textured clay and add to the top of the “acorn”, pressing gently. I liked the little ripples I got, so I kept them! Roll a small ball of clay into a snake and add to the top.

Cut about a 5 inch length of wire, fold it in half and press into the BACK of the acorn. Press the clay gently around the wire. Set aside for baking. NOTE: I made 3 or 4 acorns with no wire so I could fix them in later.

Want to try some more color combinations? Just about any 3 colors will work, just try to put the lightest color in the middle. I mixed a little Guava with Canary to get a light orange color.
