Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Sheet out 1/3 package of the Souffle Sandcastle on the #2 setting of the Sculpey clay Conditioning Machine. Lightly spray the wood pattern in the Landscape Texture Sheets (NOTE: I have cut my patterns apart). Use the acrylic roller to roll firmly across the pattern. Remove the texture sheet.
Trim the textured clay to a rectangle, then cut a curve at the top of the rectangle by either curving your Super Slicer blade or by using the largest circle in the Sculpey Nested Circle Cutters.
Sheet out a small piece of the Igloo clay on the #2 setting of the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine. Cut out a circle of the clay using the 1 inch circle cutter. Trim a piece of the Filigree Clay Decal slightly larger than the circle. Soak the decal in a small bowl of water for about 30 seconds and slip the decal from the backing. Apply to the circle of clay and use the small squeegee to remove the excess water. Carefully trim the remaining decal from the edges of the clay with small sharp scissors. (NOTE: a colored clay can be used instead of Igloo. Robin's Egg is very nice for this!)
Use the same circle to cut out a circle in the top center of the door. Inset the Igloo clay circle with the decal in the door (NOTE: I position the door over the inset and gently stretch the door to fit over the inset instead of trying to press the inset into the door.)
Add a small ball of Gold clay for a doorknob and set aside.
Sheet a small piece of Key Lime on the #2 setting of the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine. Place the sheet on the small smooth tile and lightly press against the tile. Pop the inside of the leaf stencil out and set it aside. Position the stencil sheet over the Key Lime and use the craft blade to cut out a leaf. (NOTE: I cut a couple so I could practice my handwriting!) Slide the Super Slicer gently under the leaf to lift it and place on the baking sheet.
Sheet out about ¼ block of Premo! Accents Gold on the #2 setting and place on the smooth tile. Press lightly to the tile. Pop out the key and set aside (I use a little bag to collect these in and mark it STENCILS so I don’t accidentally toss it out!) Position the stencil sheet on the clay and use the craft knife to cut around the key.
Gently peel the sheet of clay away from the completed key. Keep the key on the tile.
Lay a sheet of deli/candy paper over the key and gently press down the edges of the key to round them.
Use the medium Etch n’ Pearl to emboss three circles in the top of the key.
Use the paddle from the Decal set to mark a line down the center of the narrow part of the key and in the end of the key. Finally, texture lightly with rough sandpaper. Slide the Super Slicer slowly under the key to loosen and remove it from the tile and set aside with the leaf.
Sheet the remaining Sandcastle clay through on the #2 setting and fold in half for a double thickness of clay. Lightly spray the texture sheet with water and use the pebble-type texture to texture the clay as directed above.
The step stone shapes are created by gently bending the CUTTING edge of the three smaller oval cutters. Once you have your shapes, place a sheet of deli paper over the textured clay and position the cutters. Press firmly down on the cutters.
Remove the cutters, remove the deli paper. Use the craft knife to help remove the stone shapes from the leftover clay.
Repeat steps 13-15 with the Latte and Concrete clays.
Pinch off a small piece of the Grey Granite and roll into a rock shape. Set on the bake tray. Bake all the pieces according to the directions above.
Once the clay is baked and cooled, place the door on a sheet of old paper and brush the brown paint onto the surface (not on the center round window). Immediately wipe the top surface with a damp paper towel to remove the paint from the tops of the texture. Use a cotton swab around the door knob and the window. Set aside to dry.
Paint the step stones in the same manner as Step 18.
Use an alcohol-based pen to write on the leaf. Glue a small loop of cord onto the back of the leaf.
Assemble by gluing the door into place and use a small brad to hang the sign on the door.
