Sculpey Soufflé™ Eclectic Earrings Featuring Unicorn Spit

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

Sheet out 1/2 package of the conditioned Concrete clay on the third to widest setting. Lightly spray your texture with water and firmly press the texture into the clay. Once you remove the clay, use a clean cloth to lightly press on the clay to remove the excess water.

Check to make sure that your lid is tight on your jar of mica powder, then quickly invert the jar. Remove the lid. Tap your finger into the lid to pick up a small amount of mica powder on your finger tip and lightly rub across the top of the texture. I prefer to work from dark to light with the mica colors, so start with green to wipe across some areas, followed by the copper and then the gold.

Using the largest and the smallest of the oval cutters, arrange them as shown so that the smaller cutter is centered in the larger cutter. NOTE: I stand up to look down and center them! Press BOTH cutters firmly into the clay (I like to put a book or small piece of wood on top of the cutters and press down on that). Repeat for the second earring.

Use your Sculpey needle tool to place a hole at the top of each earring. (See how these could easily become post earrings with the center portion at the top? You would need to put a hole in the bottom of the smaller pieces as well.) Bake the clay according

Once the earrings have baked and cooled, use the small paint brush to apply the Unicorn Spit. Remember that the Spit product is a STAIN, so it won’t look like you are putting paint on the clay. Use a slightly damp paper towel to wipe off the upper surfaces that have the Pearl Ex powders on them. Allow the earrings to dry.

Once the earrings have dried, you can carefully apply a thin coat of Sculpey Gloss glaze to the upper surfaces of the texture. Add jump rings to the top of the earrings and attach the ear wires using the second pair of jump rings.
