Project Instructions
Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE
OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey
clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area.
Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing
pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6
mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED
THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an
adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly
cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for
several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into
the rollers first.
Pop the selected tag template out of the backing (for this project, we will
use the INSIDE of the template). Use a nail file to gently file away any of the tabs that remain on the
template.
Sheet 1/3 of the Igloo clay through on the middle setting on the Clay
Conditioning Machine. Place this sheet on the small, smooth tile. Position the template on the clay and
press gently down. Use the craft knife to trace around the template, turning the tile where needed. Repeat
to make at least 3 tags. (NOTE: I make more just in case I mess up my writing!)

press gently down. Use the craft knife to trace around the template, turning the tile where needed. Repeat
to make at least 3 tags. (NOTE: I make more just in case I mess up my writing!)
Pop the bird template out of the background and use the nail file to remove
any bumps remaining. Sheet 1/3 of the package of Robin Egg on the middle setting on the Clay Conditioning
Machine. Use the craft knife to cut out the bird shape, using the template sheet. Repeat with the Canary and
Mai Tai clays to create one bird each. Place the birds on the clean sheet of paper.
Bake as directed above.
While the clay is baking, trim a 3 inch wide strip of each paper. This strip
will just about wrap all the way around each jar. Glue each strip into place on the jar, positioning so that
the join area is in the back of the jar. Glue a small piece of the matching ribbon down the join. Repeat for
each jar, using a different color for each jar.
Wrap and glue the ribbon to the outside of each lid.
Remove the inside portion of the lid and trace around it on the remaining
piece of scrap paper. Cut out this trace and glue it inside the lid, gluing the inside portion of the lid as
well. Set the completed lids aside.
Once the clay has baked and cooled, write your labels on the clay tag.
Arrange some flowers and a bird on each tag and glue into place.
Tie the tags to each jar using embroidery floss in colors to match!
