Sculpey Soufflé Ballet Color Blocked Pill Tray

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best
results bake/cure clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an
index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per
1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or
ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking/curing; however please note
that the baking/curing times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces
take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO
NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Roll out a rectangle of Sculpey Soufflé Ballet to 1/8” thickness.  Roll out a rectangle each of Sculpey Premo Lavender and Sculpey Premo Pale Blue to 1/16” thickness. Using an Exacto knife, cut a curved edge on one end of the Lavender and Pale Blue
rectangles.

Place the Lavender and Pale Blue on opposite ends of the Ballet rectangle, curved edges toward the center. Place sandpaper face down on the clay and roll an acrylic roller over it to create texture on the clay’s surface.  

Trace a 3” x 5” oval onto a piece of paper and use the template to cut out an oval shape from the clay. This will form the base of the tray.

Create two 6” long 1/4” wide strips of Ballet. The strips should be 1/8” thick. Add Lavender and Pale Blue to the ends, matching the colors to the edges of the base of the tray. Use sandpaper to add texture to these as well.

Apply Sculpey Oven Bakeable Adhesive to edges of tray base.

Press 6” strips around the edge of tray base, lining up the colors. Trim any excess and add Bake and Bond to the ends of strips. Join the ends of the strips and use a tool or fingers to smooth ends together for a more seamless look.

Bake/Cure your tray according to the directions in Step 1 above.  Allow to cool.
