Sculpey Soufflé™ Pom Pom Earrings

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Sheet Cowboy Soufflé through the Clay Conditioning Machine to the second thickest setting. Spritz the surface of the clay lightly with water. Texture the leafy pattern into the clay as deeply as you can. First use hard fingertip pressure to bite the texture into the clay and then roll over it with the Acrylic Clay Roller to make the texture even and deep.

Carefully peel the texture sheet away from the clay by lifting from the corner. Blot away remaining moisture with a paper towel.

Cut a circle from the Cowboy clay using the 1.75” circle cutter.

Cut the circle in half using the Super Slicer.

Make little pancakes from Cowboy Soufflé. Embed the eye of the eye pin into each little dot of clay

Carefully place the half circles over the little dots sandwiching the eye pins between the layers of clay. Use enough gentle pressure to make sure the clays are sticking together.

Dip your fingertip into gold mica powder. Swirl your fingertip around in the lid of the mica powder to make sure there are no clumps on your fingertip. Apply the mica powder to the raised surfaces of the Cowboy clay. Bake the clay pieces following the baking instructions for Soufflé.

When the clay pieces are completely cool you can assemble the earrings. Poke a hole through a pom pom with the Needle Tool. Pull the needle tool out and immediately insert the eye pin tail through the pom pom.

Trim the tail of the eye pin to 3/4” above the pom pom. Curl a loop in the tail of the eye pin with round nose pliers. Repeat for the other earring.

Attach ear wires to the loops.
