Sculpey Premo™ Marble Trio Earrings

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Start with equal size pieces of Gray Granite and White. An easy way to get the same volume of clay is to roll the clay into 1/8” thick sheets. Then just cut the same size square out of each sheet.

Layer one color on top of the other and roll over it with the Acrylic Clay Roller. Fold and repeat. Keep folding and rolling until the colors are slightly blended. I think it’s more interesting if the colors do not blend completely.

Roll the blended sheet up into a log.

Place a very skinny rope of Alizarin Crimson down one side of the log. We don’t want the Crimson to be overpowering so we are using a very small amount of it.

Gently roll and twist the log.

Roll the twisted log up into a coil.

Roll the coil up into a ball.

Roll the ball once again into a rope about 3/8” thick. Cut uniform size pieces from the rope - six in total. If you make a uniform rope and cut pieces off that are equal in length, you will have equal size pieces for equal sized beads.

Roll each piece into a smooth ball beads.

Poke a head pin into each bead.

Place the beads on a piece of batting or a soft cloth and bake them following the baking instructions for Premo. The batting or cloth will keep the beads from having shiny spots on them where they touch the baking pan.

For each earring you will need three beads on head pins. String 10 seed beads onto one of the head pins and six seed beads on the other two. Repeat for both sets of three beads.

Use wire cutters to trim each head pin to 3/4” above the beads. Use round nose pliers to curl a loop into the tail of the head pin all the way down to the beads.

Repeat for a set of three beads for each earring.

Connect a set of three dangling beads together onto a jump ring. Connect the jump ring to the ear wire. Close the jump rings with flat nose pliers. Repeat for the second earring.
