Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please
make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected
surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper,
metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected
furniture or finished surfaces.
Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft
and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend
using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple
colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes
work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly
together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F
(130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an
oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey®
Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according
to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable
for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the
glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results,
use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE
TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Sheet Sage Pearl through the pasta machine on the thickest setting or roll with an
Acrylic Clay Roller to 1/8” thick. Double the sheet so that you have a sheet
1/4” thick.

Sheet Ecru through the pasta machine on the thickest setting or roll with an Acrylic Clay Roller to 1/8” thick. You will only need a single thickness of the Ecru.

Make sure you can cut out one 2” circle from both color sheets.

Step 3

Lay the Ecru sheet on top of the double Sage Pearl sheet. Roll with the roller to seal
them together and to press out air bubbles.

Step 4

Cut out
one 2” circle. Carefully score a line down the middle with the back of a Clay
Blade.

Step 5

Using the 1/2” Square Cutter, cut out six little squares from a Sage Pearl sheet that
is 1/16” thick or the fourth thickest setting through a pasta machine.

Cut each of the six squares in half diagonally with the Clay Blade.

Step 6

Sheet more Ecru to 1/16” thick with the Clay Roller or pasta machine, matching the
thickness of the thin Sage Pearl sheet in Step 5.

Use the 1” cutter to cut a square from the Ecru.

Step 7

Center the 1” Ecru square diagonally on top of the circle matching the points of the square to the line you scored down the center.

Position two of the Sage Pearl triangles as shown on top of the Ecru diamond.

Step 8

Position the remaining triangles as shown to create the Southwestern pattern.

Step 9

Make sure the pattern is as you like it and then apply gentle fingertip pressure to
stick each piece into place.

Trim pieces along the edges if they happen to extend past the edge.

Step 10

Use the Clay Blade to divide the entire circle in half.

Step 11

Sheet more Sage Pearl and create a slab that is as thick as your mirror. Cut a curved
line through the slab that matches the edge of the mirror. The bottom edge
should be flat and straight because this will be the cradle for your mirror.

Step 12

Sandwich the cradle between the patterned front and back.

Step 13

Trim the sides of the cradle to match the curved edges of the front and back.

This is a view from the top showing the front, back, and cradle in the middle.

Bake the mirror stand following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Step 14

Allow to cool completely before inserting the mirror.
