Project Instructions
Step 1
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking (also called Curing):
Step 2
Sheet 1/4 bar Slate Gray through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Apply composite silver leaf to the sheet and burnish with fingertips.Step 3
Place the sheet through the pasta machine on the second thickest setting to thin the sheet and crackle the composite silver leaf more creating a beautiful crackle effect.Step 4
Cut out mirror image shapes using shape cutters of your choice.Step 5
Roll a thin rope of Graphite Pearl.Carefully apply the rope to the edges of each shape starting and ending with a blunt cut creating a neat seam.
Step 6
Smooth the seams with your fingertips.Step 7
Roll Graphite Pearl to a thin sheet on the second thickest setting.Cut out three circles using the smallest cutter.
Cut one circle in half.
Step 8
Position the half circle at the top of the shape. This will be an unseen base that will level out the circles that overlap the top of the design.
Step 9
Position the circles on top of the half circle bases overlapping the crackled area.Bake the pieces following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.
Allow to cool completely before handling.
