Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven
Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured
clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces.
Be sure to
cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands
after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat
up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE
OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

We will first make Purple Spacer Beads. Roll a piece of Purple to a rope 1/4” thick and about 2” long.

Step 3

Skewer the length of the Purple rope with the Small Etch ‘n Pearl.

Step 4

Roll the clay while on the tool to smooth it back out.

Step 5

Section the clay rope into 1/4” spacer beads by rolling the clay on the tool while slicing through the clay with a Clay Blade. Make sure the cuts go all the way around the rope and all the way to the tool in the center. Leave the clay rope on the tool for baking. Do not separate the beads.

Step 6

We will next make Teal Pearl Square Beads. Form a log of Teal Pearl 1/4” wide and 2” long. Use fingertips to make the log have flat sides so that it is square when looking from the end.

Step 7

Slice the log into 1/4” square beads with a Clay Blade. Pierce a hole through each one with an Etch ‘n Pearl or with a skewer from the Bead Baking Rack.

Step 8

Make Pink Flat Round Beads. Roll a 1/4” rope of Pink and divide it into 1/8” sections. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten slightly with fingertips. Pierce a hole through each one with an Etch ‘n Pearl or with a skewer from the Bead Baking Rack.

Step 9

Make Marbled Ball Beads. Make a short thick log of White Glitter. Pinch off pieces of the other colors and apply them to the sides of the log. Roll to smooth the colors onto the white.

Step 10

Roll and twist the log to create stripes.

Step 11

These will be larger beads, so divide the log into 3/8” pieces.

Step 12

Roll each piece into a ball. Pierce a hole through each one with an Etch ‘n Pearl or with a skewer from the Bead Baking Rack.

Step 13

Finally make Round Coral Beads. Make a thick Coral log about 3/8” thick. Divide into 3/8” pieces.

Step 14

Roll each Coral piece into a ball. Pierce a hole through each one with an Etch ‘n Pearl or with a skewer from the Bead Baking Rack.

Here’s a look at all the beads.

Step 15

Thread the beads onto the skewers of the Bead Baking Rack.
Bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey III®.

Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 16

When the beads are cool, slide the Purple tube off of the Etch ‘n Pearl. Break or use the Clay Blade to divide into Spacer Beads.

Step 17

String beads onto stretchy bead cord and add a tassel in the middle.

Step 18

Tie off the stretchy bead cord with an overhand knot. Trim the ends.
