Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Hand condition 1/2 bar of Latte Soufflé. Roll out into a flat sheet approximately 1/8” thick. Cut out a piece that will just fit the top of the barrette finding. Set the finding and the matching piece of Soufflé aside for now.
From the Latte sheet make sure you have enough clay to cut out the 1.75” x 1.25” oval three times. At this point we are just checking that we have enough clay, do not cut the ovals out yet.
Break off bits of variegated leaf with your fingertips or pull them off of the sheet with tweezers. Randomly cover the top surface of the Latte sheet with the bits. Smooth all the bits down with your fingertips.
Cut out three ovals using the 1.75” x 1.25” Oval Cutter.
Cut each oval in half with the Super Slicer.
Press the Latte strip that we cut in Step 2 to the curved surface of the barrette finding. Starting on the left end, place one of the half ovals.
Work from left to right, positioning five of the half ovals slightly overlapping each other. When you are happy with the position of each half oval, mount them permanently to the clay base and to each other with fingertip pressure.
Bake the clay piece balanced on top of the barrette finding so that the clay will remain curved like the finding. When the piece is completely cool, carefully pop the clay piece off with your fingernail and glue it on permanently with silicone glue.
