Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Break off 1/4 bar of the Navy Metallic and condition and shape it into a little log.
Make very skinny ropes of Fuchsia Pearl, Glow in the Dark, and Teal. Press the little ropes along the side of the Navy rope.
Flatten the ropes to the sides and roll it to make sure they are stuck on well.
Roll the rope to make it longer and skinnier.
Place one hand on each end of the skinny rope and compress it so that it is short again and this will make the little stripes wiggly and random.
Gently twist the rope just slightly. Curl it up into a nautilus shape.
Roll the nautilus shape up into a ball.
Sprinkle some glitter onto the work surface and roll the ball in it to pick it up.
Roll the ball into a long oval. Flatten it to the work surface. Roll over it with the Acrylic Clay Roller to make it smooth. Make sure the piece is long enough to accommodate four of the 3/4” squares.
Cut out four 3/4” squares.
Turn each square into a diamond shape.
Overlap each diamond shape slightly. Press them together enough that they stick well to each other.
Place the barrette finding on the back of the clay shape. Gently press the clay to the finding so that the clay takes the shape of the barrette. This is especially important if the barrette finding is curved to make sure the clay is curved to the same shape.
Carefully flip the finding and the clay over so that the clay is draped on top of the finding. Bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey® III. When the piece is completely cool, gently pop the finding off and glue it on permanently with silicone glue. Allow the glue to dry completely before using.
