Sculpey Premo™ Pastel Terrazzo Marbled Earrings

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

This technique is a great way to use up scraps of clay from your work area. I picked up bits of White, Rose Quartz, Pale Amethyst, Mint Green, Graphite Pearl, and Opal. Place all the scraps close together in a pile on a piece of paper.

Use the Super Slicer to randomly chop up the clay into lots of little bits. As you chop, some of the clay bits will stick to the blade and this is a good way to move the colors around so you don’t have large deposits of any one color in one area. Keep chopping and chopping until the pieces are very small.

Push the little bits of clay together into a pancake. Place another piece of paper or wax paper or deli paper on top of the clay bits. Roll over them to seal them together. Flip the papers with the clay in the middle over and roll the other side as well.

Remove the top layer of paper. Examine the patty of clay and make sure it is fairly smooth. If there are any big holes in the clay you can trim some pieces from the edges and put them in the gaps. If you do, place the paper back on the top and roll over the clay again to smooth it

Make sure the patty of clay is still thick enough to accommodate the size of the ear post.

Cut out two 1.75” circles of clay. Smooth the cut edges with your fingertips.

Cut out the centers of the circles with the .75” cutter. Smooth the cut edges with your fingertips.

Cut away 1/4 section of the circles as shown.

Remove the 1/4 sections that were sliced away in Step 9. Bake the remaining partial circle pieces following the baking instructions above.

When the pieces are completely cool, glue the ear posts on each one as shown and allow the glue to dry completely.
