Premo! Peacock Cane

Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Mix 1/4 package Wasabi with 1/8 package Bright Green Pearl to create a "Peacock Green".

Mix a small amount of black in the antique gold to get a darker antique gold and a little black in the copper clay to get a dark copper colour

The colour palette for the feather cane:

Roll the ultramarine blue clay to about 8 mm diameter ‘noodle’ and create a ridge along the length using the Sculpey etch and pearl medium thickness needle.

Add a thin rolled noodle of turquoise blue to the ridge in the ultramarine blue.

Sheet the turquoise clay at #3 setting of Sculpey Clay Conditioning machine and cut a neat right angle edge.

Placing the ultramarine noodle on the turquoise clay sheet, cut a width same as that of the length of the ultramarine noodle.

Cut the turquoise sheet in such a way that it covers half of the ultramarine noodle, on the side which has the turquoise clay filled ridge created earlier (as shown in the image)

Sheet the Violet clay very thin (#6 suggested) Cut the sheet along the width of the cane and roll to make a full layer of violet.

This is how the cane now looks!

Add a layer of dark antique gold using same method as Step 11

Add a half layer of Copper over the cane.

Add a full layer of the dark copper clay over the half layer of copper clay

Next add another wrap with a very thin layer (#7) of Black clay around the entire cane

Sheet out a relatively thick sheet of peacock green colour (3rd setting) and make one layer around the cane.

Gently and uniformly roll the cane to thin down, for making cane compatible with the earring size. This is how the canes look, original (left most) and thinned down versions.
