Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
We will just need 1/8 bar of each color for this little bowl project: Princess Pearl, Spring Lilac,White, and Teal Pearl.
Condition and roll each color into a smooth ball.
Roll each ball into a log about 3” long.
Stack the little logs as shown.
Roll and twist until a striped rope is made about 5” long.
Roll the rope up into a nautilus shape.
Roll the nautilus shape up into a ball. At this point you can knead the ball as much or as little as you would like to make it more or less marbled.
Sprinkle a little bit of glitter onto your work surface. Roll the ball around in the glitter to pick it up onto the clay.
Flatten the ball into a pancake with your hands. Then roll over it to make it nice and smooth with the Acrylic Clay Roller. Make sure the thickness of the pancake is consistent. Press down on the outside edges to just barely bevel it to a smooth edge with your fingertips.
Decide which side of the pancake you like best. Place the preferred side face down on the bowl form. Shape the pancake over the bowl form making sure no air bubbles are trapped between the clay and the form.
Bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey®III. When the pan is completely cool, carefully remove the clay shape from the form.
Carefully paint the edge of the dish with the gold paint pen and allow to dry completely.
