Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
For Purple Bat: Using a 1” ball of Purple clay make a rounded teardrop shape and place it on the work surface. Poke a hole in his tummy for his bellybutton. Insert half a toothpick into the neck area for extra stability.
For the feet, make two balls using Purple clay and add them for feet.
For the wings, flatten two ½” ball of Purple into the triangles, make indentions as shown and press into the shoulder area.
To create the head, roll a ¾” ball of Purple and shape as round or oval as desired and place over the toothpick (neck). Add two pointy ears by shaping a small amount of Purple clay – make indention marks to represent the inside of the ears.
For the eyes, make hollows/holes and fill in with Glow in the Dark or White clay – position seed beads. Make eyebrows using craft knife/needle tool or toothpick. For the mouth, use those same tools to make a smile line.
For the fangs, flatten either Glow in the Dark clay or White and cut out two triangle shapes and place on smile line. For the nose, make a small oval and press into position.
The heart is made by making two teardrop shapes with Sweet Potato clay and pressing together.
For Jack o’Lantern: Using a 1 ½ “ball of Orange, shape into a smooth ball/desired shape. Make indention lines using a needle tool/toothpick.
Make a leaf using a small amount of green clay – make the vein with a toothpick or needle tool.
For eyes, make two hollows and fill these with Wasabi clay – add black seed beads looking whichever direction preferred. Make eyebrows using a craft knife.
Make a nose by rolling a ¼” ball of Orange into an oval and pressing into position…make nostril openings with a toothpick. For warts, pinch off tiny, tiny amounts of Orange clay and make balls and press them around the entire jack o’lantern.
For Mouth/Teeth, using the end of a paint brush, press into the jack o’lantern and make a hollow – fill hollow with a small amount of flattened Glow in the Dark clay. Using a knife/toothpick, make a horizontal line and lots of vertical lines to represent teeth. Make a thin snake/log using Orange and press around the perimeter of the mouth to represent lips.
