Project Instructions
    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.
Condition 1/4 package of each color and roll each piece about 1” by 3” on the thickest pasta machine setting
Cut strips of each color about 1/8” wide and arrange them side by side to create a sheet about 2-1/2 to 3” wide. This can be a random or a planned color pattern
With the acrylic roller, consolidate the stripes and thin the sheet.
Fold the sheet from bottom to top, keeping the colors in line. Roll this with the acrylic roller or with the pasta machine, taking care to keep the colors in line and the overall shape of the sheet uniform. ) If the clay spreads into a rounded arch at the top, continue folding just short of the top in order to control the distortion as much as possible.
Continue until the stripes become blurred and there are no hard lines separating the colors
Use a piece of cardstock cut a pattern for the earrings. Cut around this pattern in the desired area of the blended sheet. Flip the pattern over and cut the mirror image for the second earring.
Roll a bit of additional gold clay and cut two triangles. Press these onto the earring pieces and texture them with a rough sponge or stiff-bristle brush.
Add dots of purple onto the gold. Drill holes in the earrings for the jump rings. Bake according to the instruction in step 1.
Add gloss varnish on the stripe surface. Attach earring wires.
