Liquid Sculpey® Mod Circle Dangle Earrings

Getting Started with Liquid Sculpey®:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. -
Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely.  Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as
needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

Baking:

 -It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.

-Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.

-If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing
either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by using aluminum foil over your project.

Here’s a tip for baking perfectly in silicone molds. Dampen a dish towel with water and wring out as much of the water as you can. Fold the damp towel so that the molds can sit level on top of it. The damp towel will slow down the curing process so that the LS will cure evenly throughout and avoid warping.

Pour equal amounts of White Liquid Sculpey (LS) into the 3 clean silicone bowls.
Pour any remaining LS to one bowl for the largest circles. Add 3 drops of the
blue dye to one bowl, 5 drops to the next bowl and 7 drops to the final bowl to
start.

Stir the colors thoroughly and add more drops of dye if you prefer deeper colors. NOTE: You can test bake small drops of each color to see how the clay looks.

These are my 3 bowls of mixed colors as described above.

Gently pinch the bowls and pour the colors into the molds, using the lightest color for the smaller mold and the darkest color for the largest mold. 

Carefully pick the filled mold up and tap it on the table top a couple of times to help pop any bubbles in the mixes.

Bake according to the directions in Step 1 above.  Allow to cool. Repeat Step 3 to create the second set of circles .

You can use a pair of small sharp scissors to carefully trim any excess clay from the back of each circle.

Use a sharp needle to pierce the top and bottom edge of each circle, except the
largest circle – that only gets one hole. (You can also use a small jewelry drill).

Twist one of the screw eye pins into the largest circle. Use 2 pairs of pliers to gently open the loop on the next screw eye pin before twisting it into the bottom of the medium circle. Connect the large circle to this open eye pin and close the eye pin.  Repeat for adding the smallest circle.

You can either open the top eye pin for the small circle before you twist it in or open the loop on your ear wire to connect the ear wire to the top of each earring.
