Liquid Sculpey® Hoop Pendant

Getting Started with Liquid Sculpey®:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. - Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

Baking:
• It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.
• Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.
• If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.
• If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it or by using aluminum foil over your project.

After your liquids have been stirred really well, pour a small amount of Red Liquid Sculpey® (LS) in the bottom of a one-ounce silicone baking cup. Add a drop of White LS to the Red. Stir completely and wipe tools clean with a paper towel.

Pour a small amount of Yellow LS in the bottom of another silicone baking cup and add one drop of White. Stir completely and wipe tools clean with a paper towel.

In another one-ounce cup, pour the lightened Red into one third of the bottom. Pour lightened Yellow into one third of the bottom. Pour White into one third of the bottom.

Layer White LS over both the lightened Red and the lightened Yellow. As we add more layers, always make sure to place a White layer between the lightened Red and the lightened Yellow. The White barrier will help keep the other colors really crisp.

Pour the lightened Red over two areas in the cup. Pour lightened Yellow over the third area.

Layer White over the lightened Red and the lightened Yellow. Add one more layer of lightened Red and lightened Yellow as shown.

Pinch the silicone cup to form a little pour spout. Hold the spout really closely to the mold cavity.

Pour the LS into the shape carefully moving the cup around the shape as the liquids randomly pour out. Fill the mold shape to level.
Tap the mold vigorously on the work surface to release air bubbles.

Bake the mold following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey.

Designer’s Tip: Here’s a tip for baking perfectly in silicone molds. Dampen a dish towel with water. Then, wring out as much of the water as you can. Fold the damp towel and place it on a baking tray so that the mold(s) can sit level on top of it. Then bake according to the instructions for Liquid Sculpey® but add 10 minutes to the baking time. The damp towel will slow down the curing process so that the LS will cure evenly throughout and avoid warping both the mold and the cured piece. This tip works especially well for flat molds with large openings.

Allow the mold to cool completely. Gently flex the mold to release the baked shape. Paint on a thin layer of Glossy Glaze and allow to dry completely.

Add a faux suede cord to be worn as a pendant.
