Sculpey Bake Shop Light™ Friendly Elephant

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Mix 1/2 block of White and 1/2 block of Black Pluffy together to make Gray.Roll a 2” ball in diameter for the body. Set down on your waxed paper or clay dedicated work area. Roll a 1 1/2” ball for the head. Roll four 3/4” diameter balls for the legs. Roll two 1/2” balls for the ears and one little 1/4” ball for the tail.Mix a small amount of White and Red together to make some Pink. Roll two 1/2” sized balls for the inside of the ears. Roll two very small balls of White for the eyes. Roll 12 little balls of White for the elephant’s toenails. Roll two tiny balls of Black for the inside of the eyes.

Now that all the elephants parts are ready, start by shaping the body into an oval that is slightly narrower at one end. Set this aside. Shape the head and squeeze the clay a bit to form a turned up trunk. Flatten the balls for the ears. Press the pink balls flat and then press those onto the center of the ears. Attach the ears to the head. Flatten the two White balls for the eyes and then press your small black balls onto these for the eyes. Attach these to the head. Now attach the head to the body. Roll the legs into barrel shapes and attach two to the very front of the elephant and then two to the bottom sides of the elephant so it positions him sitting down. Roll the last little ball of Gray call into a tail shape and press onto the elephants back side. Press three toenail balls onto the edge of each foot. Smooth out any fingerprints or bumps on your elephant and place him on your baking sheet.

Bake according to the directions on your package. Allow to cool. Add some tiny white dots to the eyes with White acrylic paint. This is optional
