Sculpey Soufflé™ Silkscreened Tiered Necklace

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Sheet Igloo Soufflé to the second thickest setting on the clay conditioning machine. Lay the sheet on the work surface and make sure it’s really flat.

Lay the Pressed Petals design, shiny side down on the clay, and smooth out air bubbles with your fingertips. Squirt a line of gold paint above the Pressed Petals. Holding the squeegee at a 45 degree angle, carefully pull the paint across the screen. Immediately place the screen in the water basin and clean off the paint.

Allow the paint to dry completely. Using the 1.75” Circle Cutter, cut out around the outside of the screened design.

Repeat Step 2 using the Latticework and Leaves screen patterns and silver paint on Igloo Soufflé. Allow the paint to dry completely and be sure to clean the screen in water. Cut out two Leaves patterns and one Latticework pattern using the .75” Circle Cutter. Lay these under the large circle to gauge how they will fit together.

. Poke holes with the Needle Tool as shown. The holes in the bottom of the large piece are a little closer together than the width of the small pieces so that they will kind of overlap when they dangle. Also poke a hole in the center top of the large piece for the necklace attachment.

Bake the Soufflé circles following the baking instructions for Soufflé. Allow them to cool directly on a flat surface so they do not bend while cooling.

Dab paint on the backs of them with your fingertips allowing the paint to be uneven for a mottled metal look. Also, dab paint on the edges of the circles to create a border.

When the paint is dry assemble the necklace. Attach the top of the large circle to the necklace with the 6mm jump ring. Create three series of three each 4 mm jump rings and attach the smaller circles as shown.
