Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Paint the outside of the jar with the DecoArt enamel. I recommend this paint for glass because, after curing, it’s permanent. I used 3 coats. The DecoArt Enamel cures completely in 4 days; but you can work with the jar after a few hours drying time.
Roll a flat sheet of Souffle Cherry Pie about the thickness of a nickel. Cut out a circle to fit the top of the canning jar lid. Set the red circle aside on a piece of card stock.
Place a small ball of Souffle Latte and Cowboy into the two paw molds and cat face mold. Press the clay in firmly, then trim flat across the top with your clay blade. Squeeze Liquid Sculpey into the other molds as desired. I made Pearl color fish bones, White heart tag, a Red heart, Red Kitty dish, and Yellow bow. I also experimented with Calico cats by adding gold and black into the mold with a toothpick, baking for 2 minutes, then pouring the Pearl in and baking again. The Liquid Sculpey Bakeable Medium and the other clays can be baked together at 275 °F for 30 minutes. Details, like the cat’s eyes and names on the pet tag and bowl, can be added with a Sharpie after the pieces are baked.
Make a small ball of Sculpey Souffle. Flatten the ball and dot Oven Bake Clay Adhesive on both sides. Press the flattened ball onto the jar. Press your baked molded shape onto the flattened ball. This will allow your shapes to conform to the curved surface of the jar. Do this for all shapes except the fish bones. Bake the jar with the shapes on it for 30 minutes. Cool
Using Superglue, attach your selected shapes onto the red circle and the circle onto the lid. Also use Superglue to attach the fish bones. Let dry, add a ribbon and enjoy!
