Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best)
before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash
hands after use.

Baking/Curing:

Begin by preheating oven to 250°F (121°C). After you are done creating; for best
results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index
card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 250°F (121°C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions.  Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up.  For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

Step 2

Mix 1/4 bar Yellow with 1/4 bar Red completely to make Orange.

Then add just a tiny bit of Black.

Step 3

Mix the Orange and the Black completely together to make Brown.

Step 4

Roll the Brown in to a thick log.

Divide the thick log slightly off center in the middle. Then divide a sliver off of each end.

The piece on the left end is for the tail. The piece on the left middle is for the head. The larger piece in the right middle is for the body. And the piece on the right end is for the ears.

Step 5

Shape the body piece into a thick oval.

Step 6

Push a divot into the bottom of the oval with the back or thicker side of the knife tool. Only push about 1/2 way through the clay.

Step 7

Push again with the same tool in the opposite direction dividing the bottom of the body into four areas. Again, don’t push the tool all the way through the clay, only about halfway.

Step 8

Here’s what it looks like from the side. Smooth all the sections with your fingertips.

Step 9

Pinch a ridge up along the top of the body.

Step 10

Add a White sliver to the front of the body between the front legs.

Step 11

Smooth the White to the front of the body.

Step 12

Take the piece we divided out for the head in Step 4 and make it pear shaped. This is the head.

Step 13

Add a flat triangle of White to the bottom of the face.

Step 14

Smooth the edges of the White to the sides of the face with your fingertips.

Step 15

Push the head onto the top front of the body.

Step 16

From the remaining pieces that we sectioned out in Step 4, shape a tail that is tapered on both ends and two teardrop shaped ears.

Step 17

Push the ears onto the top of the head as shown.

Step 18

Make four little discs of White proportionate to the bottoms of the legs.

Step 19

Push the little White feet onto the bottoms of the legs.

Step 20

Make sure he stands up evenly on his new feet.

Step 21

Add the tail to the back end and curl it to the side so it doesn’t tip him over.

Step 22

Mix equal very small amounts of White and Red to make Pink.

Step 23

Flatten little pieces of the Pink to the front of the ears.

Step 24

Poke in eye sockets with the tool shown in photo.

Step 25

Add Black eyes to the eye sockets.

Add a Black nose.

Step 26

Add details to the face with the tools.

Bake the little guy carefully following the directions for Sculpey Bake Shop® Eraser Clay.
