Sculpey Premo™ Smokey Gray Geode Stretch Bracelet

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

First let’s make the geode focal piece. Condition a large enough lump of Pale Amethyst to fill the geode shape in the Silicone Mold. Add bits of chunky mica flakes to the clay and work it in.

Roll the clay into a little rope

Sprinkle some extra bits of the mica flake into the geode shape

Press the conditioned clay rope into the geode shape. You don’t have to fill the center part of the geode shape.

Sheet a small piece of Opal Premo through the pasta machine on the thickest setting or to 1/8” thick with the Acrylic Clay Roller. Lay the gold eye pin on top of the Opal clay.

Carefully remove the Geode shape from the mold by flexing it and sandwich the gold eye pin between the Opal and the Geode making sure the eye is exposed outside both clay layers.

Trim the Opal clay layer away from the pin so that the eye is exposed on one end and the tail on the other end.

Trim the Opal clay away from the edges of the geode with the Super Slicer leaving a little border of Opal. Add a little Opal into the center of the geode to cover up the pin

Texture the Opal clay to the sides of the geode using the Needle Tool. Texture the inside of the geode as well

Place a dime sized amount of alcohol into the well of the paint mixing tray. Add one drop of purple alcohol ink and stir completely

Brush the outer edges of the geode with the dark purple ink and allow to dry completely.

Next we will make the beads. Sheet Smokey Gray through the pasta machine on the thickest setting or roll to 1/8” thick with the Acrylic Clay Roller. Cut out five circles with the 3/4” circle cutter. Cut each circle in half. This way all the beads will be exactly the same size because they are all the same amount of clay

Roll each half piece of Smokey Gray into a ball.

Sheet each Oval, Smokey Gray, and Pale Amethyst through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Cut out two 3/4” Smokey Gray circles, two Pale Amethyst 3/4” circles, and one Opal 3/4” circle.

Paint one of the Smokey Gray circles with a thin layer of the purple alcohol ink and allow it to dry to the touch. Clean the paintbrush and allow it to dry.

Stack the circles on top of each other as shown

Carefully roll and twist the stack of circles into a rope. Only twist slightly so the stripes remain very gradual and thin. Divide this log into 10 equal pieces so that these beads will be the same size as the Smokey Gray beads we made earlier.

Poke holes in the beads with either a skewer from the Bead Baking Rack or with the Needle Tool. Position the skewers with the beads on them along the Bead Baking Rack. At this point both the beads and the Geode can be baked following the baking instructions for Premo. Or you can wait and bake them when we have the next set of beads completed.

Condition 1/8 block of Graphite Pearl and 1/8 block of Smokey Gray into little logs.

Roll and twist the colors together. Fold the twisted rope in half and then in half again.

Continue rolling and twisting until you have a rope with lots of varying sizes of stripes.

Flatten the rope through the pasta machine on the thickest setting or roll it with the Acrylic Clay Roller to 1/8” thick.

Cut out seven 3/4” circles

Cut each circle in half with the Super Slicer.

Use a skewer or the Needle Tool to pierce each bead.

Bake all the pieces following the baking instructions for Premo.

Paint a thin layer of Sculpey Glossy Glaze over the top of the Geode and allow to dry completely.

Curl an eye into the tail end of the eye pin with the round nose pliers so the geode has eye hooks on each end. Open and place a jump ring through each eye hook and close with the flat pliers. String a strand of the clay beads combining the gold ball beads as desired. Make the bracelet long enough to go around the wrist twice. Secure the stretchy cord with an overhand knot.
