Sculpey Premo™ White Granite Corgi Planter

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Condition two 2 oz blocks of White Granite clay. From this clay roll four equal sized balls that are approximately 1” in diameter. Set these aside for the Corgi’s feet.

Roll the remaining clay into a ball. Shape into a pinch pot by pushing your thumb in the center and pinching the edges with your fingers. Create an oval shaped pinch pot that would be large enough to accommodate your succulent plant (approx., 2” deep by 3” or so) The thickness of the sides should be approx. 1/4” thick. This is the body of your Corgi planter.

Roll the four feet into cylinder shapes now. Flare the edges out of one end of each foot/leg so that you can attach them to the body and smooth and marry any seams. Attach the feet and smooth.

Use your clay knife and cut a half moon shape out of either side of the body created in Step 3.

Condition 1/2 block of Burnt Orange clay. Roll flat with your acrylic roller until it is approx. 1/4” thick or the same thickness as the sides of your planter. Cut half-moon shapes that will fit into the areas of the body that you just cut away. Attach these pieces on either side of the body and smooth the seam lines using your fingers. Cut away any excess clay.

Roll a ball of Burnt Orange clay approximately 2” in size. Flatten slightly.
Round the head.
Use your fingers to shape two pointed ears. Use the end of your paintbrush to make indents in each ear.
The head should be approx. 3/4” thick.

You will be shaping a nose to attach made of the White Granite clay. Shape a nice Corgi nose out of some White Granite clay. The nose should be approximately 1” long or so.

Also shape a rounded stubby tail from your White Granite clay that is 3/4” to 1” in size.

Attach the tail to the back of the Corgi. Attach the nose to the front of the head of the Corgi.

Attach the entire head now to the front of the Corgi’s body. Smooth all seams and make sure the head is very secure.

Bake at 275 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

With the Black acrylic paint, paint two oval Black eyes, a Black nose and happy mouth.

Paint the inside of the ears Pink.

Paint small White dots in each eye.

Fill your planter with your succulent.
