Project Instructions
    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
We will start by making the marbled pattern. You can use your own technique for marbling the colors together or follow these simple instructions:

Start with 1/16 bar of Poppy Seed, 1/2 bar of Gray Granite, and 1/2 (-1/16 which was already used to create the coral color for the Paint Dots Earrings) bar of Igloo. Roll each of these amounts into ropes. Position the ropes together in a bundle to form a striped log.
Roll and twist the log to form a skinny twisted rope.
Fold the rope in half and then in half again.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 again. Then roll into a long rope. Spiral the rope into a coil.
Finally, roll the coil into a ball.
Randomly tear some pieces from a sheet of gold leaf and press these onto the side of the marbled ball. Roll the ball gently to smooth the leaf into place.
Flatten the ball into a pancake 1/8” thick. The gold leaf will crackle and distribute itself all over the pancake.
Cut out two large squares from the sheet. Cut the centers of the squares out with the medium square cutter. Lift and turn each medium square 1/4 turn and replace them in the large squares.
Cut the centers out with the small square cutter. Remove the small squares.
Cut each of the square sets in half with the Clay Blade.
Sandwich the bottom of the circle charms with the triangle shaped halves. Half of the clay on the front and half of the clay on the back. Where clay touches clay around the edges, pinch it together with your fingertips to seal the metal pieces inside the clay.

Bake the clay with the metal charms inside following the baking instructions in Step 1 above.

Allow the pieces to cool completely before handling.
Here is a layout of how the earrings will be assembled. There is no need for jump rings in this earring project because the pieces are already in correct orientation to each other with the wires and the charms being perpendicular to each other.
Connect the ear wires to the charms with flat nose pliers.
