Project Instructions
- Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
- Baking:
Roll 1/4 bar each of the four different colors into logs. Lay the logs side by side and pinch them together slightly so they stick to each other.
Press the four logs through the pasta machine on the thickest setting feeding the short end through first. This will flatten the colors and help them stay together along the sides.
Fold the sheet in half matching like color to like color. Press through the pasta machine folded end first. Keep folding like color to like color and pressing through the pasta machine on the thickest setting until you have achieved a blend that you like. This is a variation on the Skinner Blend.
Sheet White through the pasta machine to the third thickest setting. Sheet the ombré sheet to the third thickest setting as well.
Starting in one corner of the blended sheet, cut the bottom left corner off with the wave blade. Place the little corner piece onto the bottom left corner of the White sheet. Take the wave blade back to the blended sheet and cut another wavy strip. Lay it on the White sheet right next to the previous wavy piece, but shift it at least one wave so that the colors don’t quite line up. Repeat this process of cutting thin wavy strips, and placing them on the White sheet shifting them back and forth.
Keep adding the wavy stripes until the entire blended sheet has been cut and moved.
Sheet Elephant Gray through the pasta machine on the third thickest setting. Cut out two large teardrops and two small teardrops. Position the point of a large teardrop toward the point of a small teardrop. Place one of the jump rings across the two points as shown. Cut two large teardrops and two small teardrops from the patterned sheet as well.
Place the patterned pieces over the Gray pieces sandwiching the jump rings between the layers of clay. Bake the pieces following the baking instructions. When they are completely cool, glue the ear posts to the back of the small teardrop shapes.
