The key to making fun toys that bend after baking is to use Bake Shop Bendy Clay. Be sure to follow the baking instructions. This clay bakes a little hotter than other Sculpey products, and this is important so that the piece bends after its cured. COMPLETION TIME: 40 Minutes to make and bake

Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands
after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 285°F (140°C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 285°F (140°C) for 20 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions.  Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up.  For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

Step 2

Divide the Beige and the Black bars each into four pieces.
Mix 3 pieces of Beige and 1 piece of Black to make the base color of the bunny.
Form a thick patty with the mixed clay.

Step 3

Use the tool to push a divot into the edge of the clay forming a sort of heart shape.

Step 4

Push and smooth the shape with your fingertips.

Step 5

Keep flattening and pushing the divided area up into two ears.

Step 6

Keep flattening the shape to make it thinner, making the head larger, and the ears longer.

Step 7

Finally, shape the ears as long as you would like. Smooth all the edges with your fingertips.

Step 8

Flatten little pieces of Beige and place them inside the ears.

Step 9

Make little divots in the head for eye sockets. Fill these with very flat pieces of White.

Step 10

Add Black eyes to the White. Use a tool to make whisker marks. Make a triangle Red shape for the nose. Flatten little Beige pieces for cheeks. Make a tiny thin rope of Black for a smile.

Step 11

Be careful to bake the little guy at 285F for 20 minutes.
Baking him exactly right will help him be bendy after he is cool.

Bake following the baking instructions and allow to cool completely before bending.
