Liquid Sculpey® Faux Druzy Crescent Pendant

Getting Started with Liquid Sculpey®:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. - Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

Baking:
• It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.
• Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.
• If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.
• If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by using aluminum foil over your project.

Here’s a tip for baking perfectly in silicone molds. Dampen a dish towel with water and wring out as much of the water as you can. Fold the damp towel so that the molds can sit level on top of it. The damp towel will slow down the curing process so that the LS will cure evenly throughout and avoid warping.

Squirt a small amount of Charcoal Metallic Liquid Sculpey® (LS) on the surface of the texture mold. Spread the LS to cover the texture mold. Make sure there is sufficient LS to accommodate the 1.5” circle cutter.
Bake the mold following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey®.

When the mold is completely cool, gently flex it to remove the baked piece.

Determine how large you would like to make the crescent shape. I’m using three circle cutters in 1”, 1.5”, and 1.75”. Nesting them inside each other helps to get a visual of how they will look.

Use the Acrylic Clay Roller to sheet Rose Gold Glitter to 1/8” thick. Cut out the 1.75” size circle.

Trace the 1.5” and the 1” circles onto paper. Cut the templates out with scissors. Note- the photo shows all three sizes traced, however; it was not necessary to trace the 1.75” size.

Position the 1.5” circle template on the faux Druzy piece.

Cut out the 1.5” circle from the faux Druzy with scissors.

Use the small circle template to cut out the side of the faux Druzy with scissors.

Trim away little tails from the edges of the crescent with scissors.

Position the crescent shape on top of the Rose Gold circle close to the edge. You will need another 1.75” Rose Gold circle the same thickness as the crescent.

Cut the second Rose Gold circle using the 1.5” cutter, to match the outer edge of the druzy crescent.

Snug the Rose Gold crescent around the back of the Druzy crescent so the Druzy crescent sits flush now with the Rose Gold background.

Remove the center of the crescents with the 1” cutter.

Determine where the pinch bail will be positioned and poke a hole in the top of the crescent for the prongs.

Bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™ and allow to cool completely before handling.

If your chain has large clasp findings on the ends, you may want to lay the chain through the pinch bail now.

Align the pinch bail with the hole and close it into place carefully with flat nose pliers.
